my Social side

On sabbatical from San Francisco I find myself relaxing in the cozy, Key West reminiscent town of Gulfport, Florida. I’ve always had a fascination for technology and its impact on people’s social communication and am taking the time during the sabbatical to dive deeply into online social media. I’ve found myself an alpha/beta tester for sites such as Gridjit.com, Lifestream.fm and Flowgram.com. When not poking about in Web 2.0 platforms I’m pushing my iPhone to mesh ever deeply with friends and family as I search for exactly how large an information flow it and I can effectively cope.

it's who's talking :-)

Caution: less exciting bits to follow, this is a good spot to take a break, get a drink (like Red Bull) before pressing onward or simply clicking the back button. (trust me)

I started on the Internet before it burst upon the public consciousness by futilely working to integrate my BBSs system into this new bigger network thing. Several years later I was ready for college and took a job as tech support in a local ISP in Athens, Ohio while I studied Physics and Geology. When the ISP was bought by a larger national firm we were all let go and I started working for the Academic Advancement Department at Ohio University. This was my introduction to Instructional Design. After graduation, I accepted a position with the Department of Chemistry as Educational Technology Coordinator. A special projects and catch all position… it was general responsibility to assist faculty to place course material online in an educationally relevent manner. From those beginnings I moved on to Media Producer at Addison-Wesley in San Francisco where I found myself managing and providing quality control for all the media associated with thier line of Chemistry, Astronomy, and Physics textbooks. The AW position did not sit as well as I had hoped and I returned to a more hands on Instructional Design position at Golden Gate University. Then stepping out of that role to set up my own business.

While all that was going on I found myself wanting to back to school and did at one of University of Phoenix’s first online Master’s programs. In addition to assimilating the coursework I was also evaluating the program using it as a do or not to do reference for my future work. I started a PhD program in education but withdrew when I left for San Francisco.
